First, I just realized that the entry did not have specific detail on the assignment. Second, I did not elaborate on Praveena&#8217;s Photo Essay.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the notes I have shared with my interns:<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHY?<\/strong><br \/>\nDemonstrate a documentation method.<br \/>\nEncourage reflection.<br \/>\nUse photos to record things that might be missed the first time.<br \/>\nLong-term record.<br \/>\nPictures are worth a thousand words.<br \/>\nPhotos show perspectives.<br \/>\nUse photos to reflect personal viewpoint.<br \/>\nTaking photos is a creative exercise.<br \/>\nA collection of photos can be set along a theme.<br \/>\nA themed photo essay can be persuasive.<br \/>\nThe theme can be \u201cvertical\u201d or \u201clateral\u201d or perhaps both.<br \/>\nThe product should be personal and contribute student\u2019s personal identity \u201cun-generic.\u201d<br \/>\nCan be used as point of discussion in personal statements or interviews.<br \/>\nThe combination of pictures and words is an effective start for future use. The words capture facts and emotions of the moment. The picture makes the overall exercise sustainable into the future<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Students will be introduced to the idea of a photo essay.<br \/>\nStudents will be shown Praveena\u2019s photo essay as an example. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiawaterportal.org\/blog\/praveena\/8064\">http:\/\/www.indiawaterportal.org\/blog\/praveena\/8064<br \/>\n<\/a>I will show two or three photo essays from last year\u2019s group.<br \/>\nWe will discuss the intellectual as well as emotional value of Praveena\u2019s photo essay on Water Loss.<br \/>\nStudents will be oriented to the photo essay assignment (separate document).<br \/>\nMentors may help students develop theme ideas \u2013 using questions.<br \/>\nMentors may only superficially help students with content \u2013 again, using questions.<br \/>\nPhoto essay exhibition is intended for students to share and exchange perspectives.<br \/>\nPromote understanding.
